Project idea: a fediverse platform for sharing gpx tracks - would be ideal for runners or other sports people that don't want to create 50 accounts on various centralised websites with closed off gpx data pools that often don't allow full direct access to the data and only provide very limited UX.

The @GetTogether project needs help making an open source federated alternative to MeetUp.com.

You can already use their first instance (https://gettogether.community), but they need help with building the federation side of things, so that instances can link together and with the rest of the Fediverse.

If you’re a coder and interested in helping, you may want to take a look at this post:

Facebook and WhatsApp good bye!

(Deutsche Version unten)

Because of facebook's blunt refusal to respect my data's privacy, I'm outta there now. I deleted my WhatsApp account as well. While in the case of WhatsApp there are more than enough alternatives such as Telegram, Signal, or Wire, it's more difficult to find a replacement for facebook.

After some searching I found my answer in the #fediverse: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fediverse.

In short: The fediverse is a bunch of decentralized distributed social networks that communicate with each other and aim to build one gigantic decentralized social network that is distributed over many small servers and that puts privacy first. So in contrast to facebook or twitter, all user content is not stored under the hood of only one major player, but everyone can host their own data or sign up on a server of trust and store their data there. Additionally, the user can tightly control with whom and which other servers the data is to be shared (physically). This architecture promises to give the users themselves control over their data, not the major players.

I recently signed up with #Friendica, so meet me in the fediverse: chris@friendica.cwiwie.org.

Cheers

Deutsche Version

chris@friendica.cwiwie.org.

Beste Gruesse
